Goodbye unemployment!
So finally, after months of job hunting and general idleness, the uninteresting life of the unemployed is over for me. Here's the rather interesting story of my employment - it's rather unorthodox but hey, it's funny what life dishes out at us.
- I applied a for job at company A. I went for a grueling 1.5 hr interview. I get a phone call the very next day saying I didn't get the job, but was 2nd out of 70 applicants and just missed out. (That didn't exactly make me feel better. It made me feel worse.)
- 2 weeks later, I get a phone call from company B, an IT company I've never heard of, and I remember not sounding very interested, thinking it was some dude conducting a market survey of sorts. Turns out they are next door to company A and were looking for someone. Company A decided to "recommend" me over there.
- Without knowing anything about the position, I did some research on the company and went for an interview. They threw me questions I should have known (but didn't), so I thought I bummed out on that one entirely.
- I get a call in a few days saying they want me in for a 2nd interview. I'm pleasantly surprised but slightly bothered by the fact that they wanted me to send them source code of my Java work I talked about in the first interview, work I did 2 years ago. Not only that, I had to go into the office and do a little demo/presentation/code walk-through with them. I couldn't even remember what a classpath was, and here I was having to do a code walk-through with them. Oh the pain.
- I went for that 2nd interview this afternoon. The presentation was fine. They had already decided to hire me, but the bosses wanted me to do that presentation anyway. Talk about unnecessary stress.
